Football Recap: Garces Memorial Starts Season with Loss on the Road + How To Watch

Garces Memorial had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Paraclete Spirits on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mark Gomez, who threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 31 yards and one TD. A healthy portion of Gomez's aerial production (188 yards to be exact) went to Braxton Sherley, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Leading Paraclete to victory were Kyle Fulton Jr and Joseph Mesa. Fulton Jr rushed for 135 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, while Mesa threw for 173 yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave Fulton Jr a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garces Memorial will head out to challenge Paso Robles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Paraclete, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against San Marcos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
