Softball Game Preview: Headland Rams vs. Carroll Eagles

The Headland Rams will face off against the Carroll Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Headland nor Carroll posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Headland's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Houston Academy hitters got past them. Headland came up short against Houston Academy on Thursday, falling 11-0. The loss continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now lost six in a row.

Headland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Grantham, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Grantham hit this season.

Meanwhile, Carroll didn't have quite enough to beat Geneva County on Thursday and fell 3-2. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Headland fell to 5-1. As for Carroll, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Headland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Headland beat Carroll 7-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Headland repeat their success, or does Carroll have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
