Basketball Recap: Elli West's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Oneida over Gatlinburg-Pittman

Oneida was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 57-34 to the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Highlanders are ranked 48th).

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elli West, who posted 11 points. West has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Larissa Jones was another key player, putting up seven points.

It was another big night for Chloe Mejias, who went 10 of 15 en route to 26 points in addition to five boards and four steals for Gatlinburg-Pittman. Thanks to that strong game, Mejias now owns an excellent 45.3% field goal percentage. Another player making a difference was Maliyah Glasper, who put up ten points and five rebounds.

Oneida's defeat dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, their record now sits at 17-9.

Coming up, Oneida will face off against Pigeon Forge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they will take on Sevier County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
