Football Recap: Smethport Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Smethport had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They lost 34-8 to the Kane Wolves. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.

Several Hubbers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jonah Ganoe, who picked up 149 receiving yards and one touchdown. Ganoe really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 74 yards.

Kane was led to victory by Evan Anderson and Eric Novosel. Anderson rushed for 146 yards and three TDs, while Novosel rushed for 91 yards and one score. What's more, Novosel racked up 122.9 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024.

Looking ahead, Smethport will take on Ridgway/Johnsonburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Hubbers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Kane, they will challenge Coudersport at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
