Vernon-Verona-Sherrill has been on the road for six straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Schalmont Sabres at 11:45 a.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to 8 on the offensive boards, a fact Vernon-Verona-Sherrill proved on Friday. They came out on top against Cortland by a score of 51-41.
Eliijah Donegan had a dynamite game for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, dropping a double-double on 40 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Donegan has scored at least 25% of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leland Hitchings, who scored two points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Schalmont beat Scotia-Glenville 50-45 on Saturday.
The victory got Vernon-Verona-Sherrill back to even at 3-3. As for Schalmont, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
