Baseball Game Preview: Bishop Hendricken Hawks vs. La Salle Academy Rams

The Bishop Hendricken Hawks will take on the La Salle Academy Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Bishop Hendricken is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Smithfield, who was ranked sixth at the time (Bishop Hendricken was ranked first). The Hawks never let the Sentinels get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Tuesday. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Sentinels recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Bishop Hendricken saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cullen Crain, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between La Salle Academy and North Kingstown, and La Salle Academy kept the tradition alive. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Skippers on Tuesday.

La Salle Academy let Axel Dasilva and David Cavalloro run wild. Dasilva went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs, while Cavalloro got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Dasilva a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adryan Urena, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

La Salle Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Hendricken, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5.

Bishop Hendricken couldn't quite get it done against La Salle Academy in their previous meeting two weeks ago as they fell 11-7. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
