Softball Game Preview: Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes vs. Annawan-Wethersfield Titans

The Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes will head out to face off against the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Abingdon/Avon has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Abingdon/Avon proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Annawan-Wethersfield 13-12. The victory continues a trend for the Tornadoes in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.

Addy Onion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and nine unearned) runs on 11 hits.

On the hitting side, Taylor Ford was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Avery Stegall, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Abingdon/Avon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.

Annawan-Wethersfield is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Abingdon/Avon, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
