Softball Game Preview: Governor Mifflin Mustangs vs. Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers

The Governor Mifflin Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Governor Mifflin has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight losses, while Lampeter-Strasburg will come in with four straight wins.

Governor Mifflin fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Muhlenberg on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Muhls by a score of 14-13.

Byanne Lehr stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored four runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Abby Brunelli, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Lampeter-Strasburg posted their closest victory since March 24th on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Ephrata 6-5.

Natalie Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lampeter-Strasburg saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Kuhns, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Lampeter-Strasburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

Lampeter-Strasburg's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Governor Mifflin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
