Softball Game Preview: Jackson Ironman/Ironladies vs. James Monroe Mavericks

The Jackson Ironman/Ironladies will head out to face off against the James Monroe Mavericks at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jackson has five straight wins, James Monroe has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Jackson's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against General Brown as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Ironman/Ironladies, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jackson got a great performance from Serenity Taylor as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Taylor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Izzy Swisher and Aaliyah Barnett did most of the damage at the plate: Swisher went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Barnett went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs Barnett has posted since back in April of 2024. Daycee Howard also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Jackson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as General Brown only posted an OBP of .000.

Meanwhile, James Monroe came up short against Ironton on Tuesday, falling 11-2.

Jackson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for James Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jackson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .397. However, it's not like James Monroe struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
