Softball Recap: Pittsfield Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Westfield, Pittsfield was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Mount Anthony Patriots by a score of 8-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Generals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ava McMahon made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Mia Dejesus and Kaelyn Fields did most of the damage at the plate: Dejesus went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Fields went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Fields a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gionnah Levardi, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pittsfield's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Mount Anthony, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pittsfield will welcome Agawam at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Anthony, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Taconic at 4:30 p.m. The Patriots are facing the Thunder at the right time seeing as the Thunder are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
