Lake Shore hasn't had much luck against Depew recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Lake Shore has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lake Shore is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They lost 16-6 to Iroquois.
Shane Lagattuta made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Cohen Ludwig was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Depew). They put the hurt on Fredonia with a sharp 16-5 win on Monday. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Lucas Spruch was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Spruch was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeff Nawojski, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Daniel Reese also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Depew was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Depew is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Lake Shore, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Lake Shore might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Depew in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
