Baseball Game Preview: Basha Bears vs. Perry Pumas

Basha is 2-8 against Perry since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bears will head out on the road to take on the Pumas at 3:45 p.m. Neither Basha nor Perry posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Basha fell victim to Tolleson and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 9-0 to the Wolverines. The Bears' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Basha saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Hamilton, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple was Hamilton's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Perry entered their matchup against O'Connor on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Pumas fell 5-2 to the Eagles. The contest marked the Pumas' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Perry also got a good showing from Jaxson Schattenberg, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schattenberg has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrew Hover made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Luke Calendo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

This is the second loss in a row for Perry and nudges their season record down to 13-4. As for Basha, they now have a losing record of 8-9-1.

Perry's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Basha has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game.
