Football Recap: Moreno Valley Skates Past Lakeside with Ease

Moreno Valley won the last time they faced Lakeside and things went their way on Thursday too. The Vikings breezed past the Lancers to the tune of 43-7. The contest marked the Vikings' most dominant win of the season.

Moreno Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trevon Williams out in front who rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Williams has posted since back in September of 2024. Syree Matthews was another key signal caller, throwing for 161 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Moreno Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 304 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeside only rushed for seven.

Moreno Valley's defense stepped up as well, laying out Robert Arellano six times. Leading the way was Andrew Delatorre with three sacks. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last five games he's played.

The win was the fourth in a row for Moreno Valley, bringing their record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.3 points on average over those games. As for Lakeside, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Moreno Valley will look to defend their home field on Friday against Canyon Springs at 7:00 p.m. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Lakeside, they will challenge Citrus Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
