The P.K. Yonge Blue Wave entered their tilt with the Newberry Panthers with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. P.K. Yonge enjoyed a cozy 57-42 win over Newberry on Tuesday. That's another feather in the cap for P.K. Yonge, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

P.K. Yonge found their leader in underclassman Ashlyn Young, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Summer Barnett, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Newberry's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brandy Whitfield, who scored 15 points along with three steals, and Sarah Beaulieu who scored nine points along with nine steals and five assists. Whitfield is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anesty Debose, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

P.K. Yonge's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Newberry, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. P.K. Yonge will face off against Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Newberry will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against The Rock at 4:30 p.m. on January 18th. The Rock has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7.
