The Civic Memorial Eagles will square off against the Mater Dei Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Civic Memorial will be strutting in after a win while Mater Dei will be coming in after a defeat.
Civic Memorial lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Southwestern, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Eagles blew past the Piasa Birds 16-5 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Tanner Hokamp, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Trent Heflin was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Civic Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwestern only posted an OBP of .292.
Meanwhile, Mater Dei was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Teutopolis.
Ethan Wheelan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Trey Winkeler was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Civic Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Mater Dei, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Civic Memorial skirted past Mater Dei 8-7 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
