Softball Recap: Fort Chiswell's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Fort Chiswell had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came out on top against the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes by a score of 6-1. This was payback for the Pioneers, who suffered an 11-10 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Blair Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fort Chiswell let Jenna Ball and Krista King run wild. Ball went 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base, while King scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That home run marked the first that Ball launched this season. Another player making a difference was Tristen Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Fort Chiswell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Fort Chiswell pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Marion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Fort Chiswell and Marion should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Pioneers will square off against Bland County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (91 vs. 256). Meanwhile, Marion (ranked 113th) will meet Virginia High (ranked 247th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
