Softball Recap: Academy of Our Lady of Peace Comes Up Short

Academy of Our Lady of Peace had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-19 to make it five. They fell just short of the Point Loma Pointers by a score of 3-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pointers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in April.

Grace Paine was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April.

On the hitting side, Bryn Marsh was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Point Loma, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Point Loma's side, River Hargett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. Hargett has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Point Loma saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lola Mezzadri, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple.

Academy of Our Lady of Peace does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Point Loma, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-4 loss against Christian on the 15th.
