Soccer Game Preview: Greenwood vs. Hillcrest

Greenwood hasn't had much luck against Hillcrest recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Greenwood Eagles will face off against the Hillcrest Rams at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Greenwood made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Woodmont, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Greenwood never let Woodmont get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Wildcats on their pitch since March 10, 2015.

Meanwhile, Hillcrest put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 6-0 margin over Gaffney. Fans of the Rams have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 3+ goals.

The win made it two in a row for Greenwood and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored nine goals over those two games. As for Hillcrest, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0.

Greenwood suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Hillcrest in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Greenwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
