Preview: Escondido Cougars vs. Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns
The Escondido Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Escondido and nine for Rancho Buena Vista dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Escondido suffered a rough 35-14 loss at the hands of Westview.
Meanwhile, Rancho Buena Vista fell victim to San Pasqual's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 41-0 loss at the hands of the Golden Eagles.
Escondido's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-4 Fallbrook and 6-3 Oceanside (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.3% over those games). As for Rancho Buena Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Escondido was dealt a bruising 54-13 defeat at the hands of Rancho Buena Vista in their previous meeting back in September of 2022. Thankfully for Escondido, Angelino anthony Trapasso (who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
