Basketball Recap: Douglas Comes Up Short

Douglas's tournament run continued when they took on Sacred Heart of Jesus on Monday. The Tigers took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Comets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 27th in Nevada, while the Comets are ranked 359th in California).

Sacred Heart of Jesus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sofia Huerta led the charge by putting up 18 points and eight boards. Huerta's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Syenna Semerena was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Douglas' loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Sacred Heart of Jesus, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.

Douglas has already played their next contest, a 45-30 win against University City on the 30th. As for Sacred Heart of Jesus, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-35 defeat against Oceanside on the 30th.
