Preview: Irving Tigers vs. Richardson Eagles

The Irving Tigers will be playing at home against the Richardson Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Irving comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Friday, it was a hard-fought game, but Irving had to settle for a 30-28 loss against MacArthur.

Irving's loss came about despite a quality game from Xavier Ybarra, who rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Napoleon Proctor, who picked up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Richardson fought the good fight in their overtime match against Lake Highlands on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 27-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. While losing is never fun, Richardson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 496th, while Lake Highlands is ranked 210th).

Despite the loss, Richardson had strong showings from Donovan Ford, who rushed for 146 yards, and Cole Cage, who threw for 163 yards and a touchdown.

Irving's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.11 points per game. As for Richardson, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Irving suffered a grim 21-0 defeat to Richardson when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Irving have more luck at home instead of on the road?
