Baseball Game Preview: Canyon Springs Pioneers vs. Mojave Rattlers

For the second straight game, Canyon Springs will face off against Mojave. The Pioneers will square off against the Rattlers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Canyon Springs took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Mojave by a score of 8-4. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Rattlers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Cruz Monroy made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Canyon Springs: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrian Moreno, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aaron Moreno, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Canyon Springs' record now sits at 6-14. As for Mojave, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season.
