Soccer Game Preview: Topsail vs. Clayton

The Topsail Pirates will square off against the Clayton Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Topsail's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

On Wednesday, Topsail needed a bit of extra time to put away New Hanover. Their defense stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 1-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for Topsail in their matchups with New Hanover: they've now won nine in a row.

Topsail's one-goal win came courtesy of Paige Everett, which was the first she's scored this season.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Clayton had no problem doing just that on Monday. Everything went their way against the Titans as they made off with a 7-0 victory. Clayton might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by three goals or more this season.

Topsail's win bumped their record up to 12-5-2. As for Clayton, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5-1.

Topsail beat Clayton 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
