Softball Recap: Clovis North Takes Down Madera in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Clovis North had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Madera Coyotes, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Broncos have posted since April 2nd.

Jocelynn Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 22 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kayleigh Lua was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynn Gentry, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Clovis North is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Madera, their loss dropped their record down to 18-9.

Coming up, Clovis North will host Stockdale at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Broncos' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Madera does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
