Softball Game Preview: Millikan Rams vs. Lakewood Lancers

Millikan is 8-2 against Lakewood since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Rams will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Lancers at 6:30 p.m. Millikan's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Lakewood's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Four must be Millikan's lucky number: they beat Poway with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Titans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.

Mia Meza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Millikan's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lauryn Kim, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Those three hits gave Kim a new career-high.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Lakewood and Long Beach Poly meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Lancers walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Jackrabbits.

Lakewood is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Millikan, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.

Millikan beat Lakewood 3-0 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
