Softball Game Preview: Sickles Gryphons vs. Jefferson Dragons

Sickles has gone a perfect 5-0 against Jefferson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Sickles Gryphons will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Jefferson Dragons at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Sickles came up short against Wharton on Thursday, falling 15-5.

Briana Browder made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Locicero was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Jefferson fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Chamberlain on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Storm by a score of 8-7.

Madisen Fleming spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Amaris Dominguez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Anais Ortiz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Sickles' loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Sickles skirted past Jefferson 1-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2021. Does Sickles have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jefferson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
