Softball Game Preview: North Central Panthers vs. Lawrence Central Bears

The North Central Panthers will head out to take on the Lawrence Central Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Central has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

North Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Ben Davis on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Giants by a score of 11-10. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Giants recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Kaelee Jacobs was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Maggie Kruegar, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Lawrence Central was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They lost 6-0 to Greenfield-Central. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Bears haven't been shut out since back in April.

Lawrence Central's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for North Central, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-12.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. North Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lawrence Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Everything went North Central's way against Lawrence Central when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as North Central made off with a 9-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
