Baseball Recap: Happy Valley Comes Up Short

Happy Valley extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 10-11-1 in the process. They came up short against the Volunteer Falcons, falling 15-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-6 back in March.

Lane Parker made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Happy Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-3 (and 4-8-1 when he doesn't).

As for Volunteer, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-19 record. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Volunteer's side, Luke Armstrong made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Armstrong has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cade Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Austin Williams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Happy Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Volunteer, they will face off against Unaka at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons are facing the Rangers at the right time seeing as the Rangers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
