Softball Recap: Springfield's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Springfield had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out the Rossview Hawks 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellow Jackets have posted since March 8th.

Makenzie Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (one).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Richardson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Margret King also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Richardson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Springfield's record now sits at 4-9-1. As for Rossview, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield will take on Portland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Rossview, they will face off against Stewart County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Stewart County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Rossview surely won't give up without a fight.
