Basketball Recap: Academy for Academic Excellence Knights vs. Riverside Prep Silver Knights

Academy for Academic Excellence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 41-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Riverside Prep Silver Knights. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-43 back in December of 2024.

Riverside Prep found their leader in sophomore Jaelen Dixon, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Dixon is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Travis Butler was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 12 points and three steals.

Academy for Academic Excellence's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Riverside Prep, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy for Academic Excellence will challenge Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Riverside Prep has already played their next game (against Excelsior Charter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
