Recap: West Craven Eagles vs. New Bern Bears

West Craven was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell just short of the New Bern Bears by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to West Craven of the 9-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

West Craven saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izabella Sutton, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

On New Bern's side, Anna Champey made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Champey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Champey was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

West Craven's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for New Bern, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Craven will take on Havelock at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Bern, they will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against East Carteret at 6:00 p.m.
