Softball Game Preview: Downtown Magnets Suns vs. USC-MAE Trojans

The Downtown Magnets Suns are taking a road trip to square off against the USC-MAE Trojans at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Downtown Magnets is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They lost 29-21 to Annenberg. Even if the Suns couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for USC-MAE, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Animo Bunche on Wednesday as they made off with an 18-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Stallions: they've now won seven in a row.

USC-MAE's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.8 runs over those games. As for Downtown Magnets, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Downtown Magnets suffered a grim 22-1 defeat to USC-MAE in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Suns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
