Baseball Game Preview: Rowan County Vikings vs. North Oldham Mustangs

The Rowan County Vikings will head out on the road to take on the North Oldham Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Rowan County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

Rowan County took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Monticello 8-2. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Mason Havens made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Rowan County let Aaron Pennington and Will Richardson run wild. Pennington scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Richardson scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Richardson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Ingles, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North Oldham ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Knott County Central 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Rowan County's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for North Oldham, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
