Basketball Recap: University Prep Extends Winning Streak to Six

University Prep entered their tilt with Lassen on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They enjoyed a cozy 77-63 victory over the Lassen Grizzlies. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 1117th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading University Prep to victory were Adam Gire and Trey Pringle. Gire dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten boards, while Pringle posted 15 points along with eight steals and seven assists. Gire has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Jakob Kaukonen also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

University Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Lassen still got an impressive performance from Devin Deforest, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Deforest a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peace Folorunso, who scored 11 points and five rebounds.

University Prep's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.3 points per game. As for Lassen, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.

University Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-32 victory against Central Valley on the 21st. Lassen has also already played their next contest, a 65-46 loss against Yreka on the 21st.
