Softball Recap: Four Straight Home Wins for Salem

Salem hadn't done well against Freeburg recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Midgets with a sharp 9-2 win. Considering the Wildcats have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Breanna Thurman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alivia Rasul was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Decker, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Salem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Salem's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Freeburg, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-8 record.

Looking ahead, Salem will challenge Johnston City at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. Freeburg will be paying especially close attention to Salem's contest: after Salem faces off against Johnston City, they'll take on Freeburg again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
