Softball Game Preview: New London Whalers vs. Woodstock Academy Centaurs

New London hasn't had much luck against Woodstock Academy recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Whalers will head out on the road to challenge the Centaurs at 4:15 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for New London's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 27-0 to Ledyard, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss leaves the Whalers still looking for their first win of the season.

Ledyard hit Woodstock Academy with a four-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Centaurs lost 8-2 to the Colonels. The Centaurs have struggled against the Colonels recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Woodstock Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellary Sampson, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Maci Corradi was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

New London's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Woodstock Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

New London might still be hurting after the 26-2 defeat they got from Woodstock Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Whalers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
