Basketball Recap: Garland Christian Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Alcuin last Tuesday, Garland Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen took a 61-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ovilla Christian Eagles on Friday. The Swordsmen were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 60-53.

Lyric White was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 assists for Ovilla Christian. White's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Landon Rogers, who went 8 of 18 en route to 19 points.

Garland Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Ovilla Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-5.

Garland Christian Academy will venture away from home to face off against Cambridge on Tuesday. Garland Christian Academy is facing Cambridge at the right time seeing as Cambridge is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Ovilla Christian, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Ovilla Christian Eagles face off against the Alcuin Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
