Preview: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Broomfield Eagles
The Cherokee Trail Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Broomfield Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail eight more threes than your opponent, a fact Cherokee Trail proved last Friday. They were the clear victor by a 66-41 margin over Monarch. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Cherokee Trail.
Cherokee Trail relied on the efforts of Nathan Baack, who scored 15 points, and Braylen Thomas, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mitchell , who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Broomfield scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 92-32 win over Wheat Ridge on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 58-20.
Broomfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Joey Cook, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds, and Andrew Effland, who scored 21 points. Cook set a new season high mark in points with 19. Another player making a difference was Ethan Zufall, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Cherokee Trail's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-0. As for Broomfield, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Cherokee Trail couldn't quite finish off Broomfield when the teams last played back in December of 2022 and fell 70-68. Can Cherokee Trail avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
