Baseball Recap: Anna-Jonesboro's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

While Anna-Jonesboro's win against Frankfort wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Redbirds 9-7. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Aaron Sheffer made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over 5.1 innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base. Anna-Jonesboro is undefeated when Sheffer posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Noah Chotner was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Anna-Jonesboro: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Hannan, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Anna-Jonesboro's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8. As for Frankfort, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Anna-Jonesboro and Frankfort could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Wildcats will face off against Nashville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (391 vs. 31). Meanwhile, Frankfort (ranked 504th) will meet Harrisburg (ranked 224th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
