Baseball Game Preview: Lincoln Academy Eagles vs. Gardiner Tigers

The Lincoln Academy Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Gardiner Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Gardiner will be coming in after a loss.

Lincoln Academy lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Leavitt, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Eagles put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 11-5 win on Tuesday. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Lincoln Academy let Ethan Hodgdon and Jacob Hedrick run wild. Hodgdon went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hedrick got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Hodgdon a new career-high. Hamilton Pierpan also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Lincoln Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Gardiner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 17-14 to Morse. Even if the Tigers couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

The win made it two in a row for Lincoln Academy and bumps their season record up to 2-9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Gardiner, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Lincoln Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Gardiner in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
