Volleyball Recap: Newtown Beats Joel Barlow for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Newtown hadn't done well against Joel Barlow recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Nighthawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Nighthawks have posted since April 26, 2024.

The win didn't come easy: Joel Barlow scored at least nine points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 15-9.

Newtown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dima Frunza led the charge by getting 60 assists and 18 digs. Those 60 assists gave Frunza a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Zatulskis, who had 18 digs, 13 kills, five aces, and one block.
