Munster is 8-2 against Lowell since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mustangs will welcome the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. Munster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Lincoln-Way Central hit Munster with a five-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs fell just short of the Knights by a score of 6-5.
Mason Jarrett was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Craig, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Lowell hadn't done well against Illiana Christian recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Red Devils' pitchers stepped up to hand the Vikings a 1-0 shutout.
Ryan Wellwerts made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wellwerts was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Wellwerts wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Camden Mikulich, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Aiden Aguilar also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Lowell now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Munster, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.
Lowell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Munster hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. It's a different story for Lowell, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Munster's hitters?
Everything went Munster's way against Lowell when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Munster made off with a 9-0 win. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
