King and Kingwood are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2016, but not for long. The Panthers will take on the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. King knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Kingwood likes a good challenge.
King is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Humble: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Panthers blew the Wildcats out of the water with a 54-7 final score. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
King got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dillon Mitchell out in front who picked up 96 receiving yards and two scores, and also rushed for 59 yards and one touchdown. Mitchell showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 65 yards. A'Rhiyan Montgomery helped out on the ground, rushing for 111 yards and a rushing touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: King was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 193 rushing yards in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to King's defense and their six sacks. Dominick Toulon was especially locked on to Humble's QB and sacked him three times. Toulon also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 12. Kei'Dryn Edmond got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Kingwood might've scored the first points on Friday, but it was Atascocita who claimed the real prize. The Mustangs were dealt a 61-34 defeat at the hands of the Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Eagles are ranked 32nd).
King will need to focus on slowing down Jayce Byers, one of several Kingwood players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 144 receiving yards and three TDs. Kye Wehby did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 93 receiving yards.
Kingwood's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-3. As for King, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. King has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 484.7 total yards per game. However, it's not like Kingwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 350.7 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
King and Kingwood were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but King came up empty-handed after a 21-20 defeat. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
