Dylan Favre, nephew of NFL star Brett Favre, broke the Mississippi state record for passing yards in a single game over the weekend by passing for 562 yards as St. Stanislaus of Bay St. Louis, Miss., routed Mendenhall, 50-7.
He completed 33 of 47 attempts — six for touchdowns — and also ran for a seventh score.
Senior wide receiver Krisjon Wilkerson (6-2, 203) set a school record with 250 receiving yards.
The previous record was 544 yards by Gentry’s Michael Spurlock in 2000.
As a junior, Favre set the state single-season record with 45 touchdown passes.
The 5-foot-11, 192-pound senior quarterback told MaxPreps, “It was exciting, but the bigger picture, obviously, was beating a pretty good team. Everything clicked. The type of scheme they ran, we knew we could hurt them through the air.
“I didn’t find out until 20 minutes after the game. I knew I had a good game, but not (a record-breaker). The most I ever had before was 420 yards. I’ve put in a lot of hard work and I’ve been put in a great system.”
Dylan says his uncle Brett “talks about my leadership and work ethic. He always told me that physically I’d be able to play. No matter how talented you are, you’re not going to get far without a good work ethic.”
Favre runs a 4.65 40 and is a good scrambler. He says that “the strongest part of my game is making plays outside of the pocket.”
He has not yet made a college commitment, but told MaxPreps, “No. 1 on my list right now is Mississippi State.”
