League recap: Palo Verde wins, gets boost in standings

I Sunset - Northwest recap October 1, 2013

Palo Verde was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in I Sunset - Northwest. Earlier in the week, the Panthers defeated Silverado 21-6.

Sierra Vista made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,562 from 10,784. The advance stemmed from a 57-44 victory over the Mountain Lions last week.

Cody Alfar was a passing and rushing force as Shadow Ridge topped Del Sol.

J Henderson was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs bested the Dragons. Ben Triana helped Shadow Ridge's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 53 yards.

5-foot-9 quarterback Dustin Puia of Shadow Ridge is the league leader in passing yards this season with 527. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jake Ortale. The Palo Verde star has 12 catches for 300 yards.

Sierra Vista led the league in scoring this week by notching 44 points on Sierra Vista.
