Basketball Recap: Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood won the last time they faced Westhope/Newburg and things went their way on Friday too. The Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood Mavericks snuck past the Westhope/Newburg Sioux with a 43-38 win. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Sioux are ranked 86th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Westhope/Newburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Macy Bryans posted 14 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Bryans is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashley Tabarez, who had eight points.

Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points over those games. As for Westhope/Newburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-16.

As of now, neither Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood nor Westhope/Newburg have any future games scheduled.
