Baseball Recap: Oak Lawn Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

Oak Lawn's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. They never let the Hillcrest Hawks get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won eight in a row.

Jack Westin looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Hilger, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Richard Cummings also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Oak Lawn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oak Lawn's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Lawn will venture away from home to challenge Lemont at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hillcrest, they will head out to face off against Peotone at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
