Basketball Game Preview: Lanham Christian Lions vs. Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs

The Lanham Christian Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lanham Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 15 matches.

Last Wednesday, everything went Lanham Christian's way against The Living Water School as Lanham Christian made off with a 70-45 win. Given the Lions 's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 31st in Maryland, while the The Storm are ranked 110th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lanham Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naz Joy led the charge by going 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points in addition to 11 assists and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Joy a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Tre Ray, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Lanham Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 35 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Southern Maryland Christian Academy came up short against Takoma Academy on Thursday, falling 63-40. The contest marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Lanham Christian pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.8 points per game. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season.

Lanham Christian strolled past Southern Maryland Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 65-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lanham Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
