Basketball Recap: Rootstown Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Rootstown had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.6 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They put the hurt on the John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles with a sharp 67-47 victory. The Rovers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 20 points or more this season.

Rootstown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addy Germann, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 19 points and three steals. Germann has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Colbie Curall, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards.

Rootstown was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

John F. Kennedy Catholic's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Addy Odille, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Gianna Pompelia, who posted 16 points. Odille is becoming a predictor of John F. Kennedy Catholic's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when she doesn't).

Rootstown's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 19.8 points. As for John F. Kennedy Catholic, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4.

Rootstown and John F. Kennedy Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Rootstown (ranked 57th) will meet Mogadore (ranked 200th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rootstown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.3 points per game this season. Meanwhile, John F. Kennedy Catholic will challenge Cleveland Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday up 460 places (96 vs. 556).
