Baseball Recap: Sedan Comes Up Short

Sedan had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 5-6-2 to make it five. They fell 14-9 to the Oxford Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 on Monday.

As for Oxford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games.

For Oxford's part, Micah Reeves and Tucker Ruyle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Reeves pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Ruyle pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Reeves is becoming a predictor of Oxford's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). At bat, Reeves went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Ruyle got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Ruyle has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Oxford let Pearson Rush and Gage Lewellen run wild. Rush went 1-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Lewellen got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Rush is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Wyatt Norris was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Sedan will challenge Neodesha on Monday. As for Oxford, they will square off against Nickerson at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
